A Travel Guide to The Silent Village Lepcha Jagat | Darjeeling, West Bengal, India

A small hamlet or village near Darjeeling is Lepchajagat. I took the night Darjeeling mail from Sealdah and entered New Jalpaiguri station by 9 am. From there reserve vehicle straight to Lepchajagat.

After reaching Lepchajagat, we entered our home stay. The name of the home stay is Salakha Home Stay.

Room number 5 on the second floor was allocated for us. Seeing a very ordinary room, a door came into view. And as soon as the door was opened, there was a huge balcony and from the balcony, the clouds were falling through the pine rows, and the eyes were just stuck with a strange joy in my mind.

Without delay, I quickly freshened up in the hot water (there is a geyser system) and put on warm clothes and went down to have lunch.

A Sherpa family runs this homestay. They cook themselves. As soon as I sat at the table, lunch was served. The taste was completely different, but it was very good. I went out to the pine forest at a distance of 5 minutes.

There is no one around, only the pines, the clouds, and the call of mountain insects, the drizzling rain and the two of us.

This is what people want. But there is only one problem, if you want to see the sunset, you have to climb up to the view point and the way up is a bit bad, it is slippery because of the rain.... But we did not stop and after trekking for about 10 minutes, we reached the top of Chura, but the Sun Dada is not visible, only clouds like Peja cotton. After spending some time there, I came down. This time it was blowing like a wind. Not without a little tea, so I went to the home stay and drank some Darjeeling tea with vegetables, but I thought I would spend the evening just sitting at home?

Then it occurred to me that I could visit the mall of Darjeeling. Very quick home stay own car ready for us. I got in the car and listened to Nepali music and reached the mall within 1 hour... I did a little shopping but I can't spend much time father.... I have to drive back at night so I came back without delay. I saw momos in the shop next to the home stay and I couldn't handle the temptation.... I finished one or two plates in no time....

Dinner is ready again... this is a big problem, how can I eat with a full stomach?!!

I thought of skipping dinner but I was lucky that the meat kadai was just brought down in front of me.... What a great aroma I thought Nana would be a fool to miss it.... So I ate 5 pieces of meat to my heart's content with a piece of bread. I couldn't even move anymore... Anyway, I went to the room and saw the city built on the chalk mocked hill from a little balcony and thought how much better it would have been if I didn't have to go back to Calcutta. I fell asleep thinking about all these yellow skies and the cold was also waking me up, so I slept straight away

At 5:30 in the morning there was a knock on the door to see the sunrise....

I quickly fell asleep... I opened the window and saw Kanchenjunga during the rainy season

That's incredible. And my mind didn't last in the house.... an indomitable energy was blowing on my body.... I missed the sunrise while getting ready but the view of nature that I saw from the view point was unforgettable. But that scene was not there for long the clouds came again and covered the surroundings again and it started to get washed away so I came down quickly. Early in the morning, tea is ready.... without giving a sip, breakfast appears.... Big luchi and Pahari special potato curry. I ate some food, packed my bags, left the Lepcha world, and left for another offbeat village in Darjeeling. Home stay up to 1 car per person.

How to go to Lepchajagat:

By Air: Bagdogra Airport, which is only 85 kilometres distant, is the closest airport. Regular flights arrive at the airport from important cities all over the nation, including Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai.

By Train: New Jalpaiguri Railway Station, which is approximately 95 kilometres from Lepchajagat, is the closest significant railway station to Lepchajagat. Regular trains run from the railroad station to all the major cities.

দার্জিলিং এর কাছেই একটি ছোট্ট হ্যামলেট বা গ্রাম হলো লেপচা জগত। শিয়ালদাহ থেকে রাতের দার্জিলিং মেইল ধরে সকাল ৯ মধ্যে ঢুকে যাই নিউ জলপাইগুড়ি স্টেশন। সেখান থেকে রিজার্ভ গাড়ি করে সোজা লেপচাজগত।

লেপচাজগত পৌঁছে আগেই ঢুকে যাই আমাদের হোম স্টে তে। হোম স্টে নাম সালাখা হোম স্টে

আমাদের জন্য বরাদ্দ ছিল দু তলার ৫ নম্বর রুম টা। খুব সাধারণ একটা রুম দেখে একটু ভুরু কুচকাতে চোখে পড়লো একটা দরজা । আর দরজা খোলা মাত্রই একটা বিশাল ব্যালকনি আর ব্যালকনি থেকে দেখা যাচ্ছে পাইন সারির মধ্যে দিয়ে মেঘ নেমে যাচ্ছে চোখ দুটো জাস্ট আটকে গেলো মনে মনে অদ্ভুত রকম আনন্দ

আর দেরি না করে তাড়াতাড়ি ফ্রেশ হলাম গরম জলে (গিজারের ব্যাবস্থা আছে) আর গরম জামা কাপড় পরে নিচে গেলাম লাঞ্চ করতে।

এক শেরপা পরিবার এই হোম স্টে পরিচালনা করেন। নিজেরাই রান্না বান্না করেন। আমি টেবিলে বসামাত্র পরিবেশন করা হলো লাঞ্চ ।স্বাদ সম্পর্কে বলতে গেলে একদম অন্য রকম কিন্তু বেশ ভালো লাগলো খাওয়া দাওয়া পর ভাবলাম একটু ঘুমাই কিন্তু না সূর্যাস্ত টা মিস করতে মন সায় দিল না। বেরিয়ে পরলাম ৫ মিনিটের দূরত্বে পাইন বনে।

চারিদিক কেউ নেই শুধু পাইন, মেঘ, পাহাড়ি পোকার ডাক, ঝির ঝিরে বৃষ্টি আর আমরা দুই জন।

এইটুকু নিরালাই তো চাই মানুষের। কিন্তু সমস্যা একটাই,সূর্যাস্ত দেখতে হলে ভিউ পইন্ট অবধি উঠতেই হবে আর ওঠার রাস্তা একটু খারাপ মানে বৃষ্টি জন্যে পিচ্ছিল.... তবু আমরা না থেমে প্রায় ১০ মিনিট ট্রেক করার পর উঠে গেলাম একদম চুড়া তে  কিন্তু সূর্য দাদার দেখা নেই শুধু পেজা তুলোর মতো মেঘ জমে ️ কিছু খন ওখানে কাটানোর পর নেমে এলাম। এবার একটা হার কাপানোর মত হাওয়া দিচ্ছিল। একটু চা না খেলেই নয় তাই হোম স্টে গিয়ে ভেজ পকড়া দিয়ে জমিয়ে দার্জিলিং চা ️খেলাম কিন্তু ভাবছিলাম সন্ধ্যে বেলা শুধু শুধু ঘরে বসেই কাটিয়ে দেবো?

তখন মাথায় এলো একটু দার্জিলিং এর ম্যাল ঘুরে আসা যেতেই পারে। বেশ ঝটপট হোম স্টে নিজস্ব গাড়ি রেডি আমাদের জন্য। গাড়িতে উঠে নেপালি গান শুনতে শুনতে ১ ঘণ্টার মধ্যে পৌঁছলাম ম্যাল এ... একটু শপিং করলাম কিন্তু বেশি খন কাটানো যাবে না বাবা.... রাতের বেলা গাড়ি চালিয়ে ফিরতে হবে তাই দেরি না করে ফিরে এলাম। হোম স্টে পাশের দোকানে দেখি মোমো হচ্ছে বেশ আর কি লোভ সামলানো গেলো না .... এক দু প্লেট নিমেষের মধ্যে শেষ করে ফেললাম....

ডিনার ও আবার রেডি ... এ তো ভারী মুস্কিল হলো পেট তো ভরা খাবো কি করে?!!

ভাবলাম ডিনার স্কিপ করি কিন্তু আমার ভাগ্য ভালো যে আমার সামনে মাংসের কড়াই টা জাস্ট নামালো.... কি যে দারুন একটা সুগন্ধ ভাবলাম নানা এটা মিস করা মূর্খামি হবে.... তাই এক পিস রুটি দিয়ে ৫ পিস মাংস মন ভরে খেলাম। আর নড়তেও পারছিলাম না বাবাগো .... যা হোক করে রুম অবধি গিয়ে একটু ব্যালকনি থেকে দূরে চক মক করা পাহাড়ের গায়ে গড়ে ওঠা শহর দেখছিলাম আর ভাবছিলাম যদি না ফিরে যেতে হতো কলকাতা তাহলে কতই না ভালো হতো। এই সব আকাশ কুসুম ভাবতে ভাবতে ঘুম এসে গেলো আর ঠান্ডা টাও জাকিয়ে পড়ছিল তাই সোজা ঘুম দিলাম ..

ভোর ৫ বেজে ৩০ মিনিট এ দরজা তে কড়া নাড়া পড়লো সূর্যোদয় দেখার জন্য....

চট করে ঘুম টা ভেঙে গেলো ... জানলা খুলে দেখি বর্ষাকালে কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘা দেখা যাচ্ছে

অবিশ্বাস্য ব্যাপার যে। আর ঘরে মন টিকলো না আমার .... গায়ে এক অদম্য শক্তি বইছে.... আমি রেডি হতে গিয়ে সূর্যোদয় টা মিস করেছি কিন্তু ভিউ পৈন্ট থেকে প্রকৃতির যে দৃশ্য আমি দেখেছি তা ভুলবার মতন নয়ে। কিন্তু বেশিক্ষন সে দৃশ্য ছিল না মেঘ আবার এসে ঢেকে দিল চারিদিক আবার ধোয়া ধোয়া হতে শুরু করলো তাই নিচে নেমে এলাম তাড়াতাড়ি। সকাল সকাল চা তৈরি পুরো .... এক চুমুক দিতে না দিতে ব্রেকফাস্ট হাজির .... মস্ত বড় বড় লুচি আর পাহাড়ি স্পেশাল আলুর তরকারি । খান কতক খেয়ে ব্যাগ গুছিয়ে নিলাম লেপচা জগত কে টাটা করে বেরিয়ে যাবো দার্জিলিং এর আরেকটা অফবিট গ্রাম এর উদ্দেশে। হোম স্টে প্রত্যেক জন গাড়ি অবধি ।
